A few of us can remember seeing our father or grandfather check the time on his pocket watch. It was a fashion accessory and it fitted the vest pocket of his Sunday suit or the pocket of his work pants.There was a time in the modern age of pocket watches and wrist watches where these timepieces were mandatory equipment for work, play, or as a status symbol. In the days before the time was synchronized with atomic clocks and TV and radio, there were some jobs that required an accurate and reliable watch. Railroad stationmasters had to obtain a government certified railroad pocket watch for their duties.
These days, men may have more than one watch on their dresser. Watches can be a fashion accessory, an important tool, or even an advanced electronic gadget. With the advent of the digital watch, these timepieces have found many areas of use. A man's watch can now be a perfect blend of sport and sophistication. He can wear it to work, for a nice dinner out, or just on the boat at the weekend.
Dress watches
Although a digital watch with all the bells and whistles is a handy gadget, it doesn't make a great dress watch most of the time. Multi function watches just aren't stylish enough for this purpose. Slim, attractive designs in an analog face are more suited for this task. In addition, the face can be adorned with diamonds, or the bezel jewel encrusted for added flare. Classic styling goes a long way to show the professionalism of the wearer. And stick to the tried and true colours, the flashy colours do not belong here. Character watches have become a craze for manufacturers. The Walt Disney Mickey Mouse watch might come to mind. Adults are also wild for Winnie the Pooh Timex's line that is a hit as well. Character watches are most often purchased by adults as gifts for themselves or on impulse. Watchmakers are adding customer friendly value-added features like glowing faces and melodies to capitalize on this craze.
